    Description

Edmond Good Homer Towne Daily Comic Strip Pilot Original Art Group of 7 (c. 1940s). Good had created the Rex Baxter feature for Bell Publishing, drawn the Tarzan and Scorchy Smith strips, and helped to develop DC Comics' heroic feature, Tomahawk. The artist envisioned bigger things with this promising set of tryouts: Homer Towne (a pun on hometown) is a folksy drifter with a heroic streak. The pitch fizzled, but these examples endure as monuments to a series that might have been. (A seventh piece is a fragmentary audition for another feature, Breeze Benson -- Sky Sheriff, fully drawn in pencil and partially inked.) Ink and Zipatone shading over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 20" x 6.25". Varying moderate to pronounced toning and adhesive staining. Good to Very Good condition.
