Description

E. C. Segar Thimble Theatre featuring Popeye Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 1-25-30 (King Features Syndicate, 1930). This is the oldest Thimble Theatre strip Heritage Auctions has ever offered! The strip was in its 11th year, but Popeye was only 1-year-old when this strip titled "A 'large' proposition" was released. You can see by his facial structure that this is a very early strip for him. He hadn't quite forced Olive Oyl's brother, Castor Oyl, out of the spotlight yet, as Castor is featured in this strip. Crisply signed by Segar ("Se-Gar") with his trademark cigar. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20.5" x 4.5". The board is toned, with minor stains. In Very Good condition.
