Description
Duncan McPherson - Toronto Star Editorial Comic Strip Original Art (Star Media Group/Torstar, c. 1960s). McPherson's admirably vicious sarcasm won for him the Medal of the Order of Canada. This bright example typifies his attitude -- razzing the French and the Soviets for freeloading on the US and Canada in terms of responsibility to the United Nations. McPherson's caricatures are so accurate that no name-labels are needed: From left, Canadian PM Pierre Elliott Trudeau, US President Lyndon B. Johnson, UN Secretary-General U Thant, France's Charles DeGaulle, and the USSR's Nikita Khrushchev (sporting a grotesque wig, yet). Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 17.5" x 13.25", framed to 23" x 19.75". One small stain at upper right. Light scuffing on frame. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.Auction Info
