Description

Don Sherwood Dan Flagg Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group (McNaught Syndicate/Bell-McClure Syndicate, 1963). This lot contains five strips from this series. Dan Flagg was inspired by Don Sherwood's own experience as a U.S. Marine. The strip ran from 4-22-63 until 6-15-67. The strips in this lot include 8-30-63, 3-28-66, 12-12-66, 7-10-67, and one dated May 25th but the year/syndication notice has slipped off. Note that the 7-10-67 strip appears to be unpublished as the strip has stopped by then. Likely Sherwood was working ahead by a number of weeks at that time. Both Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson are reported to have done "ghosting" work on this series. These are ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of approximately 20" x 6.25". Overall tanning, edge and corner wear. Some minor stains. One strip has a redrawn and pasted over panel. On average in Very Good condition.
