Description

David Wright Carol Day Daily Comic Strip #550 Original Art (London Daily Mail, 1958). A crown jewel of Great Britain's comic-strip tradition, Carol Day is distinguished in particular by Wright's extensive use of crosshatching and pen-line shading to convey emotional depth and deep perspectives in almost a photorealistic manner. The present episode concerns leading lady Carol Day's involvement with an upper-crust rascal who seems to have become a high-stakes thief. Anxiety is etched into every face in this finely drawn episode from the narrative arc known as "Brother Brushes." Richly inked graphite composition on textured illustration board, with painted white highlights. Image area, 17" x 5.25". Light handling wear and toning, with adhesive seams on patched-in dialogue balloons. Excellent condition.
