Description

David Gantz Moxy Comic Strip Original Promotional Art (Sponsored Comics, Inc., 1959). Gantz' variety-filled career ranged from humor to horror, with interludes in the Funny Animal genre. An alumnus of the Mighty Mouse series, Gantz took a similar tack with Moxy, a Pogo-like variation on Aesop's fable about the Lion and the Mouse. Moxy had originated as a supermarket-giveaway comic, but Gantz' attempt at a broader syndication appears to have stalled in the demo-strip phase. This first-rate (though unfinished) example features lovely Duo-Tone artwork. The dialogue balloon remains uncompleted. Ink over graphite on chemical-shading board. Image area, 11" x 9.5". Moderate toning and marginal smudging. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
