    Description

Dan DeCarlo with Stan Lee Willie Lumpkin and Josie Comic Strips Original Art Group of 3 (Publishers Syndicate, c. 1959-61) Willie Lumpkin, involving a mailman's misadventures, lasted about a year as a newspaper feature -- but later, writer Stan Lee worked the title character into the supporting cast of The Fantastic Four. One of the two Lumpkins here is an unfinished item; the other contains the Publishers Syndicate brand and is dated 2-22. Also included is a Josie strip, a creation of Dan DeCarlo's and named in honor of his wife. Josie languished unsold -- until DeCarlo pitched it to the Archie funnybook line. Hence the long-running Josie series, culminating in Josie and the Pussycats. These three pieces are all ink over graphite on Bristol boards of varying sizes, the largest being 21" x 7.5". Toned and in Very Good condition.
