Cy Hungerford Two Down -- One To Go! Editorial Comic Strip (Panel) Original Art (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 1945). A defining image of the Allied Effort in World War II, and a vivid example of why Hungerford remained a mainstay of political cartooning for 50 years. Here, the mighty Boeing B-29 Bomber has blasted Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy to hell -- and the warlike empire of Japan is next. The shading technique is noteworthy: The artist isolated the central figure with masking tape and spattered it with ink from an ordinary toothbrush. Ink over graphite on Bristol board.
