Description

Cy Hungerford Democratic National Convention and Nature's Fallout Editorial Comic Strips Original Art Group of 2 (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 1948). The great editorialist, represented here by two large-scale gems -- one political, the other whimsical. Hungerford caricatures himself (center-right) shaking hands with New York Democratic boss Jim Farley, amidst an array of images from the Dems' 1948 Convention in Philadelphia. Other players include Harry S Truman, Bill Donaldson, Henry L. Mencken, and Alben Barkley. The second piece is a fanciful autumn scene that refers playfully to Ubbe Iwerks' famous animated cartoon of 1936, "Jack Frost." Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 26" x 13.5" and 11" x 15". The larger piece contains two vertical creases, from folding for file-drawer storage. Both show light-to-moderate age-toning. Very Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
