Description

Chic Young Dumb Dora Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-15-30 (King Features Syndicate, 1930). The prehistory of Young's ever-popular Blondie lies with Dumb Dora, a Jazz Age/flapper strip that honed Young's chops for the greater narrative thrust and tougher Depression-era realities of Blondie. Here, the flighty title character seems to be getting over a case of heartbreak -- in typically goofy style. Young's Deco-Nouveau design sense had reached a peak of functional maturity comparable with that of the great George McManus and his classic Bringing Up Father. Ink and blue pencil over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18" x 4". Moderate toning. Very Good condition.
