    Description

Chester Gould Dick Tracy Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-8-63 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1963). One of the last earthbound Tracy stories approaches a climax with the killing of Smallmouth Bass -- a fine recruit to Gould's gallery of grotesque villains. In less than a month, Gould would introduce a controversial science-fiction element that would lead Detective Tracy into outer space. This episode is a hair-raiser, composed in Gould's emphatic Expressionist style and featuring some fierce-looking flames in addition to a censor-baiting point-blank shooting. Brilliant stuff, here. Each ink-on-Strathmore panel is glued to a backing sheet, with an image area of 27" x 18". Light toning; otherwise, in Excellent condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
