    Description

Chester Gould Dick Tracy Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 10-16-60 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1960). One of Gould's weirder villains, the blank-faced and blurry-eyed Spots, dominates this sequence -- hiding out in a decommissioned Army tank at a war-memorial park. To make matters even weirder, a strange woman dashes into the clearing and abandons an infant at the base of the tank. This prelude to the classic "Little Boy Beard" episode represents a particularly strong period for Gould's long-running crime-and-punishment (mostly punishment) feature. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 27" x 18". Each panel of the Sunday is affixed to a backing page; otherwise, the condition of the art is Very Good. From the Ray Edw Collection.
