Description

Chester Gould Dick Tracy "Death of Mumbles" Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-24-55 (Chicago Tribune, 1955). Sam Catchem tries to find Tracy and Mumbles in a dense fog, finding a soggy but safe Tracy, and a mortified Mumbles (as in dead)! Tracy seldom brought back his classic villains (he usually killed them off outright), but Mumbles was only believed to have drowned back in 1947... he actually drowns here, though! Ink over graphite on Bristol board, the image area measures 27" x 18". The strip is constructed, as were many of the Sundays, by adhering individual panels to a backing board. The art is in Very Good condition, with light toning and scattered adhesive staining. From the Ray Edw Collection.
