Chester Gould Dick Tracy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-17-65 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1965). Gould's mastery of cartoon Expressionism runs riot in this tense sequence from a pivotal "Moon" period story: Junior Tracy's extraterrestrial wife, Moon Maid, has been abducted in connection with a hot-merchandise racket. Was she here, at this scene of devastation and violent death? Detective Tracy answers: "What do you think?" Gould's offbeat combination of science fiction and crimebusting remains as controversial as when new, and his confidence in the fusion is undeniable. Note the envelope (Panel 2) -- a revealing clue. Great heavy-shadow two-shot of Tracy and partner Sam Catchem at right.Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 16.5" x 5". Light toning, spot-staining, and soiling, with a patched-in lettering correction. The logotype (left) has been crossed out. Otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition.
