Description

Chester Gould Dick Tracy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-22-41 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1941). Offered here is the first Dick Tracy strip from 1941 ever presented by Heritage, and notably, the first from the well-known storyline featuring Mole, which ran from November to December of that year. In this scene, Mole, who appears in three of the four panels, has already been captured by Dick Tracy following a weeks-long investigation. His story is nearing its conclusion, after which he would not reappear in the comic strip until 1971 -- a full 30 years later. This Dick Tracy daily evokes Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, complete with stand-ins for Tiny Tim and Scrooge, published just in time to celebrate the novel's near-centennial! Gould's artistic talent shines brightly in this festive holiday daily, rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 6". Affixed to mat board and toned, with whiteout, production notes in the margins, and handling wear. Signed and personalized by Gould in the top margin and in Excellent condition.
