Burne Hogarth Tarzan Sunday Comic Strip #917 Original Art dated 10-3-48 (United Feature Syndicate, 1948). The Jungle Lord faces imminent death in the gladiatorial arena from his human opponents and then from the dreaded "Striped Death." Among the most respected comic strip artists of all time, Burne Hogarth was a master of both anatomy, and expression of the figure in dynamic motion, and his images of Tarzan himself are among the most powerful ever rendered. The image area measures 19.5" x 26.5". The strip has been creased in the panel gutter below its title logo, and the bottom panel tier has been cut from the rest of the strip and later reattached. There is also some overall paper aging, and some foxing; otherwise, this masterwork from the Golden Age of the adventure comic strip is in Very Good condition.
