Description

Bud Fisher Mutt and Jeff Daily Comic Strip Original Art, undated (H.C. Fisher, 1910s). Mutt and Jeff is often cited as the first such feature to develop a day-to-day narrative continuity. This episode involves Augustus Mutt's ticket-scalping scam, which backfires after timid accomplice Jeff attempts to bolster his courage with a "nerve tonic" (read: booze-in-disguise). Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with hand-tinting in delicate watercolors (likely by Fisher himself). The image area is 26.5" x 6", and the art is in Excellent condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
