    Description

Billy DeBeck Barney Google Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-7-30 (King, 1930). Barney Google introduced many popular expressions, including the name of a Web search engine. (The term means "big-eyed.") Even Peanuts' Charles Schulz owed his nickname, "Sparky," to Barney Google's racehorse, Spark Plug. Both Barney and Spark Plug are front-and-center in this splendid piece, with Barney plotting to sell a part-ownership in the horse in order to raise an entry fee. A delight for anyone devoted to the historic comics -- to invoke another phrase that originated with this strip, "Time's a-wastin'!" Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 17.5" x 4.5". Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
