Bill Zaboly - Popeye Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 12-7-58 (King Features,1958). When it came to the art of mooching, J. Wellington Wimpy honed the act to its ultimate perfection. Comics Historian Richard Marschall wrote in America's Great Comic Strip Artists, "As a base fellow, Wimpy traveled in good company, for he shared traits with fiction's greatest rascals. Like Dickens' Micawber, he specialized in pretense and pomposity and affected flowery prose; both characters subscribed to the dictum that "something" -- in Wimpy's case a hamburger would be sufficient, thank you -- 'will turn up.'" In this Sunday, Wimpy is compelled to substitute two dozen oysters for a hamburger in order to implement his latest master plan for a free meal at Rough-House's cafe. Popeye and Rough-House guest star. The Sunday has an overall image area of 27" x 18". The strip was cut horizontally through all three panel tiers and then carefully conjoined; otherwise the art is in Very Good condition. Here is a hilarious gag for the Wimpy fans -- let's get those bids in!
