Bill Watterson Calvin and Hobbes Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-9-87 (Universal Press Syndicate, 1987). Eat vegetables? Yecchh! Calvin knows exactly what he wants in this sweet daily from one of the most popular comic strips of the late 20th Century, Calvin and Hobbes. The old adage of "always leave them wanting more" must have been cartoonist Bill Watterson's personal mantra. Despite enjoying enormous success, Watterson ended the strip after ten years. Also, to the great frustration of collectors, Watterson decided to hold on to most of his original artwork. The demand for original artwork has pushed the value through the roof, as has been the case with the scant four C & H auction items sold through Heritage in our 13 years of auctioning comic art. This is only the second original daily we've been fortunate enough to offer, and we fully expect an onslaught of bidding activity for this choice piece. It's in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 12" x 3.75". The lettering and panel borders were laid down in fine-line marker, which has slightly faded; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition. The strip has been signed and inscribed, and has been matted to an overall size of 15.5" x 7.5", ready for framing. It will definitely be the "cherry on the sundae" for any collection!Auction Info
