Description

Bill Freyse The Daily Grind Daily Comic Strip Tryout Samples Original Art Group of 4 (c. 1940s). Securely situated since the 1930s as NEA Services' official Major Hoople artist, Freyse nonetheless reserved the ambition to branch out in additional directions. These large-scale gems are examples. A big-time punster, Freyse developed The Daily Grind as a potential outlet for some outrageous wordplay. The pitch did not register, but the wordplay is still as corny as ever. Freyse's identification with Our Boarding House with Major Hoople remained in Freyse's hands until his death in 1969. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 28" x 6.5". Excellent condition, with minimal age-toning.
