Description

Basil Wolverton Woozy Woofer Unpublished Pilot Comic Strip #21 Original Art (1930s). Pacific Northwest artist Wolverton submitted various episodes of a Woozy Woofer feature in the long preamble to his decisive emergence as a radical innovator in the comic-book industry. This daily-style sequence features a lost-in-the-woods adventure for the big-nosed title character and his friends. Even so early on, Wolverton's distinctive style is apparent -- note the extensive cross-hatching and the exaggerated facial expressions. Ink over light graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 18" x 4.5". Slight handling wear; otherwise in Excellent condition.
