Description

Alfred Andriola Charlie Chan Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-7 (McNaught Syndicate, c. 1940s). Although missing from this strip, Detective Charlie Chan was a positive portrayal of a Chinese man during an era rife with ethnic slurs and stereotypes. This daily titled "If you see what you want - Take it!" was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 5". Signed and inscribed by Andriola in top border. Toning, the year is missing from the syndicate, pinholes in the top corners, small tear on the top edge, missing bottom left corner, residue staining from missing text paste-ups, with creasing, staining, and edge/handling wear; otherwise, in Very Good condition.
From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
