Description
Alex Raymond Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-12-40 (King Features Syndicate, 1940). The first great story arc in the strip's celebrated run with Alex Raymond and Don Moore succeeded in mirroring the events on Earth as closely as possible without sacrificing entertainment value. Their work remains seminal in the annals of history and is without equal, going on to influence Star Wars and countless other properties. In this Sunday example, dated, 12/8/1940, from the story arc "The Power Men of Mongo" gives us Flash having reached the gates of Ming's "concentration camp" in an attempt to rescue Zarkov and the other political prisoners within the camp. Bulon is about to murder Flash when he is captured by Ming's guards. Flash barely escapes with his life. Rendered beautifully, we see Dale getting ready to rescue Flash, once more, she clobbers Bulon, and he comes crashing down, while Flash is struggling to get out of the scoop of a crane, and he successfully scrambles out of the scoop and Dale and Flash are reunited once more. Rendered in ink with red ink key lines over graphite on two separate Bristol boards with a combined image area of 24" x 29.5". Lightly toned. In Excellent condition. From the Alex Raymond Family Collection.
