Alex Raymond Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim Sunday Comic Strips Original Art dated 6-6-37 (King Features Syndicate, 1937). Alex Raymond was using his much sought-after dry brush technique on this Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim Sunday, which had been created specifically to compete with the popular Buck Rogers and Tarzan strips. Part of the "Beast Men of Mongo" story arc, this Flash Sunday leads to the great war on Mongo, pitting Ming the Merciless against his son-in-law, his own daughter, and their allies. Flash, Grombo, Prince Barin, and Dale Arden are featured in this comic. But what makes it so rare, and desirable, is the fact that it comes with the Jungle Jim topper! Rendered in ink over graphite on illustration board. The Flash Gordon piece has an image area of 20" x 15.75". The Jungle Jim Sunday has an image area of 20" x 9.25". Age-toning with edge and corner wear. The Jungle Jim title logo is missing, with damage to the syndicate paste-ups. There are production registration paper strips affixed to the margins. Light smudging and staining, with handling wear. Overall, in Very Good condition.From the Alex Raymond Family Collection.
