Description
Al McWilliams (as Don Sherwood) Dan Flagg Comic Strip Advertisement Original Art dated 6-25-63 (McNaught Syndicate, 1963). It is reported that Al McWilliams ghosted on this strip "almost from the start". And this piece proves that to be the case! A special illustration created to run in newspapers advertising a new story arc starting in July of 1963, it was published on 6-25-63. The Dan Flagg strip started on 4-22-63, just two months prior to this. Marguerita is described as a "fiery Cuban dancer" and also part of the Cuban revolution. A hot topic, as the Cuban Missile Crisis happened only eight months prior. Signed as "Don Sherwood" in the 15" x 14.5" image area, but Al McWilliams' name is penciled in the lower left corner. Gorgeous and delicate work in ink over graphite on 20" x 15.5" Bristol board. Toned and in Excellent condition. From the Al Williamson Collection.More information about Al McWilliams.
