Description

Al Jaffee Tall Tales Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-8-62 (New York Herald-Tribune, 1962). Already a presence in MAD since the late 1950s, Jaffee also re-shaped the newspapers' comics pages with Tall Tales -- a narrow vertical panel that was usually wordless, or with minimal dialogue. Jaffee's brilliant humor and artistic ability was focused on creating visual gags for the observant viewer, with this humorous daily showing the importance of knowing measurement symbols. Created in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 2.75" x 10.25". Slight toning, title, text, and discolored syndicate paste-ups with excess residue staining, staining on the lower right edge, marginal notes, with light smudging/handling wear. Signed by Jaffee in the lower right image area and in Very Good condition.
