Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-29-40 (United Feature Syndicate, 1940). A bizarre account of "th' bird which gives yo' th' bird" who steals preserved turnips from all the wives in Dogpatch, and the attempt by Pappy Yokum and crew to capture it. Got that? It might help to know that "giving the bird" once referred to "hissing the actor", dismissing someone and sending him about his business. In this strip, the mysterious unseen "bird" imitates the men's voices with a loud "brack" -- he's "giving them the bird." In any rate, it's prime Capp craziness! Ink and graphite on Bristol board cut into four tiers of panels attached from behind, with a combined image area of 19" x 21.75". Very Good condition.
