    Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-28-43 (United Feature Syndicate, 1943). A gigantic spread, from 'way back when the comics told BIG stories for BIG newspapers. Capp is in his sarcastic prime, here, with the story of a vicious kidnapping -- aimed at stealing the solid-platinum skullbone of a lovable old geezer. Abner Yokum aims to track down the culprits, the degenerate Scraggs family. Capp's fluid pen-and-brush inking looks especially fine in the large format. The five tiers are attached by horizontal strips of production tape (on reverse). Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 19" x 26", matted to 23.5" x 31". Light toning, moderate adhesive staining. Excellent condition.
