Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Fearless Fosdick Original Art dated 6-13-43 (United Feature Syndicate, 1943). Li'l Abner's "ideel" comic strip hero, Fearless Fosdick makes an early appearance in this splendid Sunday. In the beginning, Fosdick was a fairly straight-forward lampoon of Chester Gould's Dick Tracy, before he took on more outlandish attributes (like having large bullet holes appear completely through his body when shot). Here, he encounters a Gould-like villain, Stone Face, and Abner worries enough about Fosdick's blasé encounter to write a letter warning the detective not to trust him. The Fosdick character was first introduced in 1942, this strip being from one of the earliest storylines. The art is in ink over graphite on five conjoined pieces of Bristol board (held together with brown tape on the reverse side), with an overall image area of 19" x 26.25". Very Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
