    Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner "Joanie Phoanie" Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-31-66 (United Feature Syndicate, 1966). One of Al Capp's most infamous Li'l Abner storylines involved a protest singer who championed the rights of the downtrodden while riding around in a limo. Although Capp's creation looked nothing like singer Joan Baez, she threatened to sue. "Joanie Phoanie is a repulsive, egomaniacal, un-American, non-taxpaying horror," said Capp. "I see no resemblance to Joan Baez whatsoever, but if Miss Baez wants to prove it, let her." Miss Phoanie is introduced in this daily. Ink, graphite, and Zipatone shading film on Bristol board, with an image area of 18.75" x 5.5", matted to an overall 23.25" x 10". In Excellent condition.
