Abner Yokum receives an invitation to a shotgun wedding -- his own -- on account of his attentions to the daughter of a menacing backwoodsman named Fantastic Brown. A pivotal episode from the earlier years of the classic feature, with Capp exploring the complicated romantic life of Abner. Richly detailed pen-and-brush composition, with propulsive use of heavy black patches and silhouettes. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. The image area is 22.25" x 5.75". Light toning.
