Description

Al Capp (as A. G. Caplin) Mister Gilfeather (aka Colonel Gilfeather) Daily Single Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-9-32 (Associate Press, 1932). When Al Capp took over this strip from its creator Dick Dorgan in June of 1932, it came time for the good Colonel to muster out and became just Mister Gilfeather. It's not hard at all to spot the unique Al Capp art style in this piece, a straight through-line ancestor to his work on his own definitive creation, Li'l Abner, right down to the lettering style. The artist was still using his real name and hadn't yet adopted the Capp pseudonym. This panel was crafted in ink and white paint over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9" x 8.25". The board is toned, with some paste-up lettering corrections. Slight warp in the lower left corner. In Very Good condition.
