    Description

Clare Victor "Dwig" Dwiggins Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn Original Art Comic Strip Undated (Estate of Samuel Clemens & the Mark Twain Co., c. 1930s). True to the spirit of Mr. Twain, Dwig's long-running spinoff strip invents many situations but retains the authentic characterizations. Huckleberry Finn's superstitious nature fuels this large-scale doughnut-hunting episode, which involves a purportedly magical hoodoo doll, or fetish. A fine surprise ending, here. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with panels pasted in place. The inscription hails "C.W. Kent" (actually, Jack Kent), a schoolboy enthusiast who would grow up to become a great comics artist, his ownself, with the classic King Aroo strip. Image area, 28" x 6". Scattered staining and one vertical crease (at center). Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
