Clare Briggs and Clare Briggs, Jr., When A Feller Needs A Friend and Ain't It a Grand and Glorious Feeling? Comic Strips Original Art Group of 2 (New York Tribune Syndicate, 1914-1939). Schoolboy cartoonist Jack Kent started out as a collector of original comics art from the established stars of the profession. He scored doubly with Clare Briggs, Jr., the daughter of comics pioneer Clare Briggs. She provided Kent with a 1939 entry from her revival of her father's Grand and Glorious, and then sweetened the pot with a 1914 panel by the elder Briggs. These are delights individually -- even more so, when taken together. Briggs, Jr.'s inscription appears at Panel 6 of her original. Kent evolved steadily from fan to working artist: His King Aroo strip (1950-1965) is a classic of satirical fantasy. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 10.25" x 14" and 14" x 11". Age-toning varies in degree. Average Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
