    Description

Chic Young Blondie Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 1-4-33 (King Features Syndicate, 1933). The second day of the "Hunger Strike" storyline, this is one of the historic strips that transformed the series from Blondie's own Tillie the Toiler style strip into the classic American Family style strip we all fondly remember. Many forget that Dagwood Bumstead was a rich idler who loved that unflappable flapper Blondie so much that he gave up his cut of the family fortune to marry her against his parents' wishes! True love. And we truly love this daily created in ink with blue pencil shading over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 19.5" x 4". There is slight toning, handling wear, a couple of pinholes in the corners, and a bit of edge wear and tape residue. The image area is in Very Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
