    Description

Chester Gould Jarley Try-Out Daily Comic Strip Original Art (c. 1920s). Well before October 1931, when Dick Tracy first appeared in the pages of the Chicago Tribune, cartoonist Chester Gould struggled to make his mark in the burgeoning comic strip marketplace. Gould left Pawnee, Oklahoma to pursue his career in Chicago, where he produced numerous try-out strips, including this Jarley strip, which demos his sense of humor rarely seen in his later produced works. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 6". There is some toning and soiling along the margins, soft corner creases, and dust shadows along the edge, otherwise the art is in Very Good condition.
