    Description

Chester Gould Dick Tracy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-4-45 (Chicago Tribune, 1945). Some of the key scenes in the Breathless Mahoney story arc happened without Dick Tracy being anywhere in that day's strip. Take this key scene from near the end of the story, as B. O. Plenty strangles Mahoney with a lacing cord. Wow, that's pretty intense for a daily comic strip! She survives, but readers certainly did not know that on 9-4-45. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 6". There are two missing paste-ups, one leaving glue residue in Panel 2. A horizontal line has been drawn through the bottom of every panel as a guide for newspapers that wished to run the strip at a smaller size. The toned board is in Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
