Chester Gould Dick Tracy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-10-45 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1945).
Dick Tracy is looking gaunt and haggard. His kidnapper, homicidal creep Itchy Oliver, is subjecting the detective to slow starvation. A particularly sadistic sequence from Gould's masterpiece of grotesque menace, enhanced and lent deeper continuity by the presence of a menace from a prior episode -- the surviving gun moll of a Tracy menace known as B-B Eyes. Bears noting that this ordeal occurs during the holiday season: Gould treated every such occasion as a challenge for Tracy to break free in time to reach home for Christmas. The readers could hardly wait for each new installment. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 19.5" x 6". Toning and handling wear commensurate with age. Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
