Chester Gould Dick Tracy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-08-45 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1945). Gould's greatest appeal lay in the elaborate death-traps he would devise for Detective Dick Tracy. Here is one of the more diabolical such threats -- a case of slow starvation, inflicted by the eccentric villain Itchy Oliver and the surviving gun moll of a prior Tracy menace named B-B Eyes. Gould treated every Christmas season as a challenge: Will the hero break loose in time to make it home for the holidays? Such urgency kept the readers turning first to Dick Tracy every time they would pick up a newspaper. From a fine year for Gould's ferocious masterpiece. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 19.5" x 6". Toning and handling wear commensurate with age. Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
