Charles Schulz Peanuts First Veterans Day Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-11-69 (United Feature Syndicate, 1969). World War II vet Charles Schulz began a tradition with this daily, featuring Snoopy in his fully-decorated "Ike" jacket. This running gag usually concerned Snoopy's plans to go to Bill Mauldin's house to "quaff a few root beers" in honor of Veterans Day -- this was Schulz's loving tribute to the man he always referred to as his "hero." Mr. Mauldin was, of course, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist who entertained GI's during the war with his Willie and Joe cartoons. This wonderful daily is drawn in ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 27" x 5.5". Other than the usual mailing fold between the second and third panels and a slightly sun-struck image area (from an old framing), the art is in Excellent condition. Snoopy, we salute you, sir! From the Bill Mauldin Collection.
