Carl Barks "The Old Castle's Secret" Donald Duck Painting #CB OIL12 Original Art (Walt Disney, 1971). Donald Duck and his plucky nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie encounter a ghostly surprise in this magnificent oil painting on canvas. The image is based on Carl Barks' cover art to Four Color #189 ("The Old Castle's Secret", 1948) a classic story that helped develop the character of Uncle Scrooge. This painting, also known simply as "Old Castle" and the Barks code 71-24, comes from Barks' first full year of producing Disney Duck paintings for fans. With the help of Gold Key/Disney Comics editor George Sherman, Carl received permission to use the Duck characters in his commissioned art, and his fans went wild -- finally, the man known for years only as "The Good Duck Artist" now was enjoying the spotlight he so richly deserved. He never failed to disappoint with his new versions of classic comic book scenes, and this painting is no exception, faithfully recreating the original cover image down to the last detail, on this 16" x 20" stretched canvas. The painting is in Excellent condition, housed in an elegant wooden frame (no glass) with a white canvas custom mat; the overall framed size is 23.25" x 27". This lovely painting has been tucked away for many years in the collection of one of the most prominent Barks collectors in the country, and it was no easy task for us to pry it loose to be offered in this auction -- it's a real keeper! We're sure the new owner will likewise want to hang on to it for a long time to come, so now's the time to act, Duckburg devotees! Don't let it get away!
