Description

Cardwell Higgins Movie Humor Magazine Preliminary Cover Original Art (Ind. Publ., 1930s). A classic example of the Good Girl idiom of magazine art, from a master of the form. Higgins originated this spontaneous study in voluptuosity as a cover demo for Movie Humor, a Depression-era pulp-type title that mingled risqué jokes with photographs of bathing beauties and semi-starlets. The drawing does not match any known cover painting for Movie Humor's issues of the 1930s - a condition that makes this one all the more unique.
Graphite on off-white Manila-textured paper. Dimensions, 8.5" x 11.5". Light toning, natural smudging, and edge wear. Very Good condition.
