DescriptionKen Bald (attributed) Captain America Comics #68 Cover Original Art (Timely, 1948). It's almost unheard-of for the original art for a published Timely cover to be offered for sale. We have not had one before in our 15 years of auctioning comic art, and now there are three in this sale! And better still, this particular hails from one of the core titles, possibly the only Captain America Comics cover ever to have surfaced or been offered anywhere! This cover is from late in the title's run, after Bucky had been replaced by Golden Girl as Cap's sidekick. Artist Ken Bald has verified that he is "most likely" the artist for this piece. Even some truly great comic art collections that we know of do not include a Timely superhero cover, and as such we expect that hardly anyone in our database won't at least be eyeing this lot. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.25" x 20". Staple hole at upper right. The bottom center area is on a separate piece of board, sealed to the main board on the back. The text blurb at bottom center is a recent replacement. Some tape was professionally removed from the piece. Very Good condition.
