    Description

Burne Hogarth Tarzan Hand Colored Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-2-41 (United Feature Syndicate, 1941). The Lord of the Jungle braves fiery waves of molten lava and showers of stones from an angry volcano to save his friends, in this rousing page by Burne Hogarth. With his command of anatomy and attention to detail, Hogarth was a truly worthy successor to Hal Foster, and his images of Tarzan are among the most powerful ever rendered. Tastefully framed and matted to an image area of 19.5" x 26" the work is in Excellent condition. Includes a photostat of a letter written by Hogarth, recollecting his thoughts about hand coloring this art. From The Art of the Funnies Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
