Burne Hogarth Tarzan Comic Strip Promotional Illustration Original Art (United Features Syndicate, c. 1938). No Burne Hogarth Tarzan Sunday comic strip original art has ever come to market pre-dating 1940, in spite of the fact that he took over the Sunday strip from Hal Foster in 1937. At first he "Fosterized" his art style to look like the elder master. After a year or so, he went back to his own style. This promotional art piece has a very Foster-ish look to it, so we think this is probably the earliest Hogarth Tarzan drawing in existence and it is the only Tarzan promotional drawing by Hogarth to ever surface. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 11.5" x 9.5", it is mounted and matted to 16.5" x 15". Slight tanning; however, in Excellent condition.
