Bob Powell Joe Palooka Comics #47 Story Page 2 Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1950). Powell excelled at many genres, most prominently in romance and horror. Here, the master writer-artist proves himself a master of sporting events: A knockout depiction of the boxing ring's legendary "long count" match of 1927 between heavyweight champion Gene Tunney and former champ Jack Dempsey. The fighters are vividly caricatured, and the composition details the logistics of the battle. Ink and blue-ink wash over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 18". Moderate toning and adhesive staining in lettering of final panel. Very Good condition.
