Bob Montana Jackpot Comics #4 Second Ever Archie Story Page 3 Original Art (MLJ, 1941). The introduction of Archie Andrews in Pep Comics #22 is generally considered one of the most important events in comic book history. That issue was cover-dated December, 1941. Around the same time as Pep #22 hit the stands, perhaps the week after, Archie made his second appearance. This time, he appeared as a back-up feature in Jackpot Comics #4, the issue where Archie also made his first cover appearance (as a small insert image, hastily added over the action scene featuring Steel Sterling and the Black Hood). Here's the third page from that issue's Archie story, known informally as "The Play Goes to the Dogs," co-starring Archie's best buddy Jughead, plus a silhouette of gal pal Betty in one panel. The art is in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 13" x 18", and is in Very Good condition with some minor soiling and one missing type correction.
With Archie making news again, this time about his "death" in Life With Archie #36, the amount of interest in the character is at an all-time high. This important and historical page will surely be the centerpiece of any major collection of America's Teenager!

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
