Bob Lubbers Firehair #11 Story Page 4 Original Art (Fiction House Publ., 1952). Firehair, that heroic frontierswoman, stalls an attack on a wagon train and confronts the trail boss (a fictionalized version of explorer Jim Bridger), while 19th-century outlaws disguise themselves as 16th-century Spanish conquerors. A weird sequence from one of the more imaginative Western titles. Lubbers is in top form, showing a tremendous influence from his early-day mentor and eventual collaborator, Li'l Abner's Al Capp. Lubbers was already two years into his association with the newspapers' Tarzan strip, and just two years away from introducing Long Sam, in collaboration with Capp. Lubbers' transition from comic books to comic strips was gradual and overlapping, and this age-toned page is a splendid example. Ink and chemical shading over graphite on Duo-Tone board. Image area, 12.5" x 18". Prominent adhesive staining, extensive editorial markings, and scattered intrinsic lettering errors. Good condition.
