Bill Mauldin - War Zone Illustration Original Art (undated). Bill Mauldin's cartoon drawings have chronicled America at war since WWII, where his two ragged soldiers Willie and Joe first entertained the troops within issues of the military publication, Stars and Stripes. Here, in a rare color cartoon illustration (possibly done as a book or magazine cover), Bill focuses on the Vietnam conflict, with a drenched dogface soldier wearing a peace symbol, enjoying a smoke during a quiet moment. It's a powerful image, rendered in ink and watercolor of Bristol board. The art has an approximate image area of 13" x 17", and is matted to an overall 20" x 27". Signed in the lower left. In Excellent condition. Original art by Bill Mauldin rarely ever comes up for auction, so we expect plenty of interest in this spectacular piece. From the Bill Mauldin Collection.
